Aldermen To Review Compensation Levels

Macomb, IL – Macomb aldermen say they will review the pay levels for the city's elected office holders. Those positions include mayor, clerk, treasurer, and alderman. City council members say it's important to set the salaries before the filing period begins for next year's elections. The fourth ward's John Maguire asked city staff to research how Macomb's pay compares to similar cities. The first ward's Charles Gilbert would like to complete the discussion and take action within the next 30 to 60 days. The city is required to have the compensation levels set 180 days before the office holders' terms begin. Their start date is May 1. You can listen to aldermen discuss the compensation issue during their May 30 committee meeting by clicking on the audio button above.
