Macomb, IL – A Macomb-based agency has been hired to provide administrative services for the McDonough County Public Transportation System, though the vote was not unanimous. Macomb aldermen approved the contract with the Western Illinois Regional Council on Monday night. The only "no" vote came from the second ward's Ken Zahnle. He has no qualms with the regional council itself. But he does not think ridership levels justify the agency's plans to charge fares on some of the Go West bus routes. Zahnle points out many of the people using the service are already exempt from paying fares, such as WIU students and senior citizens. The fares will only be charged on routes six, seven, eight, and nine. Other routes will remain fare-free.
