Keokuk, IA – Use of the Keokuk Public Library appears to be on the rise. The library's lower level is now home to the Keokuk Art Center. That includes a classroom, a pottery room, and an office. The renovated basement is also a storage facility for the archives of the Lee County Historical Society. Library Director, Emma Lee Lahmeyer, says these new facilities are bringing more people to the library. The lower level is filled with drawings, sculptures, and paintings from the art center's collection. The library also added an expanded parking lot, with access from several streets. Lahmeyer, who is retiring at the end of the month, says the lower level also includes storage space and a break room for library staff. The lower level was opened to the public in January. An open house was held over the weekend.
