Fort Madison Leaders Will Conduct Search

Fort Madison, IA – Fort Madison will not hire an outside firm to coordinate its search for a new city manager. Mayor Steve Ireland will appoint a special search committee within the next few weeks. He says the panel will include himself, 2 city council members and 2 department heads. Ireland says Fort Madison paid about $20,000 to an out-of-time firm during the search process for former City Manager Bill Kelly. Kelly resigned last month after a majority of the city council asked him to step down. Ireland has asked each city council member for input on what the job description for the post should be and what qualities the next city manager should possess. He says the search committee will narrow the field of candidates down to 3 to 5. After that, the city council will take over the process.
