Macomb, IL – A state lawmaker from western Illinois says private colleges are getting some state money at a time when a higher priority should be placed on public universities. Representative Rich Myers (R-Colchester) says state funding for public universities is just now being increased again after several years of cuts. He says this is not the time for giving money to private schools. Myers says Memorandums of Understanding made by Democrats will send state construction money to DePaul, Northwestern, and other Chicago-area private institutions. He says state construction money should first go to WIU and the state's other public universities. Myers also says pet projects - such as the member initiatives funded through the Memorandums of Understanding - should not get funding during a time when the state is still behind schedule for reimbursing Medicaid providers such as doctors, nursing homes, and pharmacies.
