Keokuk, IA – Residents in two Midwestern states will head to the polls on Tuesday.
Northeast Missouri residents will have to make a few decisions. The only contested races in Clark County, on the local level, are for presiding county commissioner. 5 Republicans and 2 Democrats are vying for their party's nominations. Voters will also be asked if Clark County shoudl impose a 0.5% countywide sales tax and if the Clark County nursing home district should increase its property tax rate. In Lewis County, Democrats must choose their nominees for county treasurer and presiding county commissioner. There are no contested races on the Republican ballot in Lewis County. Canton residents will also be asked to create a 5% hotel-motel tax with the proceeds going to promote tourism. The polls in Missouri will be open from 6:00 am until 7:00 pm.
Meanwhile, voters in Des Moines County are being asked to extend the county's $.01 local option sales tax. The tax has been in place since 1999 and expires in 2009.
