Fort Madison, IA – The Lee County Board of Supervisors wants to keep a close eye on employment levels throughout county government. The board has put another hiring freeze in place. It will expire next July. The board will review requests from department heads, to add or replace an employee, on a case-by-case basis. Chairman George Morgan says the idea is to show residents that the supervisors are still committed to fiscal responsibility. The hiring freeze does not include commissions and compensated boards. The board of supervisors operated under a hiring freeze during the previous fiscal year. It officially expired, though, several weeks ago. Immediately following its adoption, the hiring freeze was lifted to allow the board to hire a new part-time correctional officer to fill a vacancy at the jail. The supervisors also set the salaries for 2 temporary, part time records clerks, hired last week, to work in the treasurer's office.
