Keokuk to Explore Parking Problems

Keokuk, IA – The Keokuk City Council is looking for answers as to how to address a residential parking problem. Keokuk's medical complex, which includes Keokuk Area Hospital and the Keokuk Clinic, is located between Morgan and Fulton Streets, from 15th to 18th. In recent weeks, council members have been receiving complaints from residents who say medical employees are taking up all of the parking along city streets. Mayor Dave Gudgel says he hopes to set up a meeting with the hospital to see what can be worked out. Community Development Director, Pam Broomhall, says city code requires the complex to have about 250 parking spots. She says her last count shows the facility has over 350. It is unclear if the city has the authority to limit the parking on public streets to residential use only.
