Lewistown, IL – The Fulton County Board voted against putting an advisory referendum on the November ballot. Board chairwoman Sandra Monari says the question would have asked whether voters would support establishing a tax to support the nursing home. She says board members obviously heard from many who were against the idea of the county running a nursing home. She says The Clayberg is bascially self-sustaining except for retirement contributions, employee health insurance and other payroll levies. She says those are paid for from the county's general fund. Monari says the move by the board will halt attempts to upgrade the home to allow skilled care patients. She says those bring a higher reimbursement from the state and could help the home pay more of its expenses.
