Nauvoo, IL – Led by tourism to Nauvoo activities, Hancock County showed almost a 12 percent increase in tourism revenue last year. Nauvoo tourism director Rustin Lippincott says taxes on tourism spending such as lodging, meals and entertainment brought about $820,000 to Hancock County and its towns in 2005. He says tourism spending peaked in 2002 when the restored Nauvoo Temple opened. That brought visitors from around the world. Now, Chamber of Commerce president David Miller says most visitors are from the region, including Chicago and St. Louis. He says many aare making repeat visits.
