Keokuk, IA – Two major street projects in Keokuk could get underway in less than 2 weeks. The city council awarded Keokuk Contractors the contract for Main Street Reconstruction, Phase 3. The bid, just over $300,000, was about 20 percent below previous estimates. Burlington-based Mike Nelson Concrete Paving Company will take care of the year 1 projects in Keokuk's residential street repair program. Public Works Director, Bill Richards, says the winning bid of just over $541,000 was about 25% below estimate. Richards says work on High Street, from 13th to 17th, and on the sidewalks and curbs along Main Street, from 4th to 7th, should get underway after Labor Day. He says both projects are scheduled to be completed this winter. Richards says work on Pioneer Lane and Brookshire Drive will not get underway until the spring.
