Burlington Wants To Redevelop Neighborhood

Burlington, IA – Burlington wants to redevelop a 24-acre neighborhood on the city's west side. Community Development Director, Chris Nosbisch, says the city hopes "The Manor" will become a site for commercial development. The neighborhood sits between Agency and Market Streets and Roosevelt Avenue and Columbus Drive, near the intersection of Highways 34 & 61. The city plans to borrow money to purchase the properties with "The Manor," so they can be torn down. Nosbisch says this project will improve a neighborhood where crime is a serious concern. Nosbisch says a Minnesota-based developer is interested in the property, once it is cleared. The Burlington City Council will hold a public hearing, in 2 weeks, on whether the plan should move forward. Nosbisch says the redevelopment of "The Manor" is part of the 3rd phase of a large-scale urban renewal project that previously focused on Greenway and Newberry Village.
