Carthge, IL – Carthage aldermen have agreed to accept the former library building as the new site for city offices. Mayor Jim Nightingale says the paperwork should be completed by October. The library board gave the building to the city after it moved the library to the former Marine Trust building. Nightingale says city workers will do some of the remodeling needed to make offices handicapped accessible. He says the police department will be the first to go to the new building. Now, the city rents space for the police department. The library building was originally city hall until more space was needed. It then was given to the library. Nightingale says the current city hall will be given to the Kibbe Museum, which needs more space.
