Macomb, IL – McDonough County budget workers are trying to end this year in the black ... and plan for a better end-of-year balance for the next fiscal year. Chairwoman Alice Henry says they hope to end this year with a balance of up to $300,000, about what was expected. She says some budgeted spending will probably not take place. Next year's budget calls for about $4.1 million in general fund spending. That's about $200,000 more than this year's budget calls for. The county expects slightly more property tax income next year due to new construction. However, for the second year, it will not set aside $276,000 from the Public Safety Sales Tax for property tax relief. In previous years, the county had transferred that amount to the Public Building Commission to offset part of its levy.
