Macomb, IL – A special four-member county board committee will go over the 150 forms filed by people who did not receive their owner-occupied property tax exemptions this year. Chairman Glen Foster says the group will recommend to the county board the ones it deems valid. Board members have expressed a desire to get the exemptions granted. However, State's Attorney James Hoyle has told board members they should not issue either refunds or a tax credit. He said that would invite lawsuits by taxing bodies, who have already received their tax money from the 2005 year. Foster says the board has yet to decide how it will handle the valid complaints. The tax greak is worth up to about $500 on a person's tax bill.
