Macomb, IL – Macomb's community development coordinator is resigning, but not without first sharing a few choice words. In his resignation letter, Bob Mahrt says he found himself increasingly unable to carry out assigned duties within the current work environment. Mahrt also says that prior to his appointment, he was not made fully aware of the significant organizational flaws that would completely stifle a public employee's ability to provide professional services to a municipal government. Mahrt also uses the letter to tout his accomplishments, which include an improved filing system and implementation of a successful weekend enforcement program. Mahrt's letter was read into the public record during Monday night's city council meeting but he was not there to elaborate on his concerns. His final work day will be October 2. The city will immediately advertise for a new community development coordinator. In the meantime, the Western Illinois Regional Council will be paid to handle some of those duties.
