Southeast Iowa Marketing Plan Underway

Mt. Pleasant, IA – A recent economic recovery report for Southeast Iowa says the region must do more to work together and market itself. The lengthy study, developed by a Texas-based consulting firm, says Lee, Des Moines, Henry, and Louisa counties must capitalize on their strengths to compete in the global market. The report focuses on the region's positives and negatives and potential for growth, providing recommendations without firm direction or timelines. Lee County Economic Development Director, Lowell Junkins, says the report is just the start, not the solution. He says the regional cooperation between the 4 counties must move forward from here. To begin the efforts, the SEIREDC is creating a marketing campaign for the region, which will be known as the "Great River Region." A website has been developed, www.greatriverregion.com , and the search for a marketing and promotional coordinator will soon begin so Southeast Iowa can sell itself to potential clients and to its own residents.
