Carthage, IL – The Carthage YMCA is still hoping it can be taken over by the town's park district. But the park board is still seeking more information about the move. Tyrone Jacoby says the YMCA board knew falling membership and increasing expenses make it unfeasible to continue the Y as an independent organization. He says members of his board have spoken with park board members about being absorbed. The park board is still gathering information about the plan. Jacoby says should the park district not vote to take over the YMCA, other partners which could benefit from absorbing the Y building and facilities could include the school district or Memorial Hospital.
