Monmouth, IL – A Peoria-based health care firm will turn the Monmouth Inn and Suites into a supported living center for about 50 residents. Petersen Companies will remodel the motel by the beginning of next year. Spokeswoman Pamela Kelly says starting with a motel will make the remodeling easier. She says the firm bought the building because of a strong need in the region for assisted and supported living space. Petersen has more than 62 such facilities in Illinois and Iowa. Kellys says the firm has also purchased the now-closed Meling's Motel and Restaurant. It plans to demolish the existing structure and put up an mid-range hotel and restaurant. Construction on that could start early next year.
