Macomb, IL – The Illinois Department of Transportation says it's making another huge investment in the western part of the state. A groundbreaking ceremony was held Friday for an 8.1 mile stretch of Route 336. The work will cost $56 million. It will build the portion of the road from west of Macomb to about Illinois 61. Eventually, the highway will connect Macomb to Quincy. IDOT Secretary Tim Martin says four-lane roads such as Route 336 provide economic opportunity. Another $70 million of work is ongoing in Hancock County and the state says the bypass around Carthage is scheduled to open next week.
