Housing Tax Status Clarified

Rushville, IL – Developers are working to convince Hancock County Board members that a proposed housing project will add to the real estate tax rolls. Board Chairman Brian Peak says some members had the impression that the development of at least 20 homes was being built by a tax-free housing authority. Peak says the Illinois Community Action Association is a non-profit, but private group. The homes it wants to build for single-family workers could add $1.6 million or more in taxable value for the county. Peak says Rushville aldermen have already voated to prepare a letter of support for the project, which would be just outside the current city limits on the south. He expects the County Board to approve the development at next month's meeting.
