Havana, IL –
The Mason County Board has re-zoned land on the northwest corner of Havana for a possible ethanol plant. The 260-acre plot near the Illinois River had been zoned for agriculture ahd residences. Havana Economic Developer Terry Svob says some concerns were expressed about safety and odor, but others focused on the 40 to 50 jobs a major ethanol plant could provide. Prairie Breeze Ethanol LLC has filed an application with the state for a plant which could produce up to 60-million gallons per year of the corn-based fuel. Svob says the grain supply and the confluence of rail, barge and highway transport could bring more such businesses.
