Macomb, IL – A private firm has handled Macomb's legal work for the past few years, but an alderman wants to change that. The fifth ward's Tim Lobdell feels the potential for a conflict of interest is too great in a small town. He says bringing the work back in-house would eliminate that problem because the legal counsel's only interest would be the city. Lobdell is also concerned about costs. The city was paying $150,000 per year for its own attorney. It's now paying $200,000 per year to the law firm March, McMillan & DeJoode. The city made the switch to a private firm after Mick Wisslead became mayor. He argued the city could receive better service through privatization. The firm's contract with the city expires in six months.
