Aldermen Listen to Plans for Housing Complex

Macomb, IL – Another new housing complex is being proposed for Macomb, though this time it's not for students. Indiana-based Sterling Development is talking about building up to 48 single-family homes in the 1600 and 1700 blocks of East Pierce and Murray Streets. Sterling would own the homes and operate the complex like a condo association. Residents would eventually have a chance to buy the houses, which would be marketed to moderate income families. Sterling's Kent Heckaman told aldermen Monday night that the company would pay for some infrastructure improvements with its own money. Heckaman said the company would not need the city to rezone the site. However, it would ask for a letter of support from the city in order to receive a federal tax credit. Heckaman said a market review is still being completed. He said a preliminary study shows there is a need for the housing.
