Burlington Schools Could Flip-Flop Buildings

Burlington, IA – The Burlington School District might have to relocate some students during an upcoming construction project. The district hopes to start building a new North Hill Elementary School, next to the building it will replace, once classes wrap up this summer. Business Manager Chris Van Meter says the old building will not be torn down during the construction, but green space and parking will be lost. She says the district plans to relocate the younger North Hill students and is looking into moving them to Washington School. If the move takes place, the district will have to find a new home for its alternative high school, which is currently using Washington. Van Meter says one option is for the district to move the alternative school to the old North Hill building because the older students would not need as much parking or green space. The new North Hill elementary is scheduled to be completed by the Fall of 2009.
