Macomb, IL – A building that once housed a grocery store on Macomb's west side will soon get a new occupant. But the space will not be filled with another grocery store. A Quincy-based congregation known as The Crossing will convert the former Thompson Food Basket site into a church. The purchase agreement should be completed by the end of the year. The change means the property will be dropped from the tax rolls. Mayor Mick Wisslead says the city is still working to attract a grocery store to the west side. The former Thompson store building has been vacant for a number of years. It's on West Jackson Street at Wigwam Hollow Road and has parking for nearly 300 vehicles.
