Macomb, IL – The Macomb Park District will take further steps to let people know there might be a cougar in the area. The district plans to post warning signs along trails at Spring Lake and Lakeview Parks. The signs will provide advice on what to do if a cougar is spotted. The advice includes standing your ground and raising your voice. Park District Executive Director Ray Peterson says running from a cougar triggers a natural hunting instinct in the animals. Peterson says while there is some evidence of a cougar in the region, there are no confirmed sitings. Nonetheless, he says it's important to share the information and let people know there might be a risk. The district's insurance carrier still needs to approve the signs before they can be posted.
