Carthage, IL – Carthage aldermen plan to sign a contract agreeing to take a steady 160-thousand gallons per month of Water from Hamilton for at least the next six months. Mayor James Nightingale says the move will allow Hamilton to plan work shifts at its plant to meet the extra demand. The agreement will mean that Carthage is getting up to 80 percent of its water through the pipeline because the city's water reservoir is low and not refilling well. Nightingale says entineers are evaluating alternate water supplies and their costs. He says the city will eventually have to upgrade its water plant as well to meet EPA guidelines.
