Donnellson, IA – One Southeast Iowa school district hopes some new state funding will help in the recruitment of quality teachers. Central Lee Superintendent, John Henriksen, says some of the most difficult teaching positions to fill are in the math, science, and industrial technology departments. The state set aside money, earlier this year, for districts to use to create financial incentives to help them find teachers in those fields. Henriksen says the district has received approval, from the school board, to use roughly $7,000 for the program. While there are no vacancies at the moment, Henriksen says the money will likely be used this spring to replace teachers who are leaving. A district's enrollment determines the amount of teacher market actor funding.
