Warsaw, IL – Combining middle school athletics could be in the future for several Hancock County school districts. Warsaw, Nauvoo-Colusa, and Hamilton have cooperative agreements, in various combinations, for most high school sports. Now, the talk has moved to creating similar mergers at the middle school level. Superintendent Kim Schilson says Warsaw must consider its options, for middle school athletics, because of low enrollment projections. Schilson says merging middle school sports could also make it easier to find coaches and to build successful programs. Nauvoo-Colusa appears to be interested in exploring the idea. Hamilton could not reach a consensus because just one board member attended the recent joint board meeting. THe athletic directors for the three districts plan to meet in January to discuss the current high school sports agreements and to explore the idea of middle school sports mergers.
