Montrose, IA – Lee County will have a little more time to explore the future of its economic development efforts. Lowell Junkins says a deal between himself and Lee County Economic Development Group will allow him to stay on as Executive Director for up to 6 months, despite his plans to step down at the end of the month. He says taxpayers will not have to pay for him to remain on the job, though, because his expenses will be paid for, during that time, by a new company he co-founded. Junkins says it is important for him to stay on the job because Lee County is still in consideration for a handful of projects. He says a deadline is needed, though, for his departure. Junkins says his new company is also ready to invest $50,000, over 2 years, to help move LCEDG toward a public-private partnership. He says that will only take place, though, if other businesses and industries put up similar pledges and if the county and LCEDG reach a long-term service agreement.
