Macomb, IL – Macomb residents who live in neighborhoods around the WIU campus say the city still is not doing enough to crack down on code violations. The citizens live in areas zoned for single family housing. That means no more than two unrelated people can live in those homes. Christopher Pynes told aldermen Monday night that some landlords are ignoring that rule, yet the city appears to be ignoring neighborhood complaints about the matter. He said the issue was first raised ten weeks ago but nothing has been done. City attorney Liz Wilhelm said she looked at 105 properties on Stadium and Orchard Drives and North McArthur Street and could find only four cases where there might be violations. But Pynes said local residents know there are many more violations. Three other residents also complained about the issue Monday night so aldermen agreed to discuss it again during their first committee meeting of 2007.
