Long-Term Economic Development Deal Possible In Lee County

Fort Madison, IA – Talks of a new multi-year economic development agreement could soon get underway in Lee County. Economic Development Director, Lowell Junkins, says a long-term commitment, between the county and Lee County Economic Development Group, would show stability and support for the future. LCEDG chairman, Mike Holtkamp, says the not-for-profit organization hopes to meet with the Board of Supervisors, after January 1, to start those discussions. Chairman George Morgan says the supervisors have already shown a commitment to economic development and are willing to talk about a long-term deal because continuity is needed. Morgan says he would like the discussions with LCEDG to take place during budget negotiations. LCEDG was formed nearly 5 years ago. During that time, the county has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars into the organization.
