Keokuk, IA – Increasing the federal minimum wage is one of the top priorities for Southeast Iowa's newest representative in Washington D-C. Democratic Congressman-Elect Dave Loebsack of Mount Vernon says a significant hike will take place when the 110th Congress convenes in a couple of weeks. Loebsack says stem cell research, student loan interest rates, and ethics reform will also be discussed early on in the session. He says his party must hit the ground running, when it takes control of Congress, so issues can move forward prior to President Bush's State of the Union and Budget addresses. Loebsack will serve on the Committee on Education and the Workforce, which addresses educational and labor issues. Loebsack defeated 30-year Republican incumbent Jim Leach in November.
