Augusta, IL – Southeastern High School hopes to break ground on its new addition on March 3. That would be the one year anniversary of the fire that destroyed the old building. The plans for the new structure were shared with the community on Sunday. The addition will be built on the same spot where the old building stood. It will include a two-story glass facade at the entryway and ornate cut stones from the old building will be located in the flagpole garden near the entrance. The addition will provide 38,000 square feet of space. The old building had 24,000. Teachers, administrators and others helped develop the plans for the new facility, which should be ready for the start of the 2008-2009 school year. The estimated cost of the new building is $7 million. The state will pick up 65% of the tab and the district's insurance company will pay the rest.
