The Spirit of Giving

Macomb, IL – Many people are inspired by the spirit of the season to give to others. But a McDonough County hospice volunteer has chosen to give all year long. Patsy Butterfield of Blandinsville knits afghan blankets that are given to the patients. It's her own way of bringing warmth and comfort to them. Butterfield began the project after learning a friend was doing something similar in Moline. So far, Butterfield has made 36 of the blankets for the McDonough District Hospital hospice program. She never meets with those who benefit from the blankets and was reluctant to be interviewed, preferring that her anonymous gifts remain just that. But reporter Tyson Terhune got a chance to speak with her and profiled Butterfield in a story that you can listen to by clicking on the audio button above.
