Macomb, IL – Illinois State Police are urging drivers to do their part to make sure troopers remain safe while on the job. District 14 Safety Education Officer Ed Howard says motorists should observe Scott's Law when approaching roadside emergency scenes. Scott's Law in Illinois requires drivers to slow down and move over when approaching any stopped emergency vehicle that has its warning lights flashing. Howard says even a simple traffic stop can place troopers in harm's way. He says two troopers in Illinois have been injured recently by motorists who did not take precautions. Violators of the law can be fined up to $10,000 and have their driver's license suspended for up to two years. Scott's Law is named for a Chicago fire lieutenant who was killed in a crash while at a rescue scene.
