Lee County Accepts Resurfacing Bid

Fort Madison, IA – Despite a statewide freeze on certain road upgrades, Lee County is moving forward with a 7 mile resurfacing project. The Board of Supervisors has accepted a bid of more than $960,000 from Hamilton-based WL Miller Company, to resurface Highway J62. The Charleston Blacktop runs from the Sheriff's office to Highway 27. Engineer Dennis Osipowicz says the county will use local "farm to market" funds to cover half of the cost. Even though the state has halted the use of these funds, Osipowicz says this project can move forward. Osipowicz expects work to get underway in late spring and be completed in about 6 weeks. During the project, several bridge guardrails will also be replaced.
