Keokuk, IA – The Keokuk Police Department is making little progress when it comes to bringing up staffing levels. The 2 newest members of the department have completed their training and are now out on the streets. Instead of bringing the force up to 23 sworn officers, though, two more recent vacancies have countered those additions. Chief Tom Crew says the department is working through being short-staffed. Crew hopes the Keokuk City Council will grant him permission to hire 3 new officers, to bring the force up to 24. He says a new candidate list would be needed before any hiring could take place.
