Macomb, IL – The issue of homestead tax exemptions is going back to McDonough County's Law and Legal Committee. At this month's board meeting, member LeRoy Brown suggested the committee re-consider a number of exemptions that had been turned down by a special committee. Brown said the residents deserve the exemption. Law and Legal Committee chairman John Lawson was not happy with the recommendation. He says all applications have been reviewed, and with one exception they were not valid. The county did repay Carol Lawson her exemption because the committee believed paperwork was mislaid in the assessor's office.
