Keokuk, IA – One of the teenagers charged in a shooting plot at Central Lee High School is now in the custody of the state of Iowa. Stephan Copeland, 16, has been placed in the custody of the Department of Human Services to receive treatment for conditions such as depression and anxiety. During a court hearing, Copeland also waived his right to have his trial begin within 60 days. No future court dates were set. Copeland, Dalton Bird, 17, and Jacob Schulte, 15, are each charged with 1 county of conspiracy to commit a forcible felony. Authorities say the three had access to guns and were targeting several people at their school. Copeland alledgedly withdrew from the plan and alerted school personnel. Bird's preliminary hearing has been continued until next week. Schulte's preliminary hearing is next month.
