Macomb, IL – Macomb aldermen will be asked Monday night to fill two key positions in city government. One of those jobs is community development coordinator. Mayor Mick Wisslead says the recommended candidate is Ed Basch, who currently is involved in regional planning in southeast Iowa. Wisslead is impressed with Basch's experience with tax increment finance districts and enterprise zones. Wisslead also says Basch has worked before in Illinois and can step in right away and get involved in the comprehensive planning process that's already underway in Macomb. Basch will be paid $55,000. The other new hire is James Bessler to be utilities manager. The new position will encompass the responsibilities previously handled by the water and waste water superintendents. Bessler currently works in the Chicago suburb of Bolingbrook. Wisslead says Bessler has extensive experience and was Macomb's second choice for public works director, a position that's now been filled by Walter Burnette. Bessler's starting pay will be $64,000. Both Basch and Bessler will begin work in Macomb next month.
