Macomb, IL – Macomb aldermen are debating whether to revise their committee meeting structure. Aldermen John Maguire and Charles Gilbert reviewed the matter because the city council will soon increase in size from seven members to nine. They say Committee of the Whole meetings with broad agendas could continue being held, but they wonder if that structure will prove to be too cumbersome to be effective with nine members. The two suggest some committee meetings should focus on just one aspect of city operations, such as public safety or public works. This would allow the council to become more familiar with the issues and challenges facing various areas of city government. No decisions were made during Monday's Committee of the Whole meeting. Alderman Tim Lobdell and city council candidate Dave Dorsett both suggested no decisions should be made until after the elections so new aldermen can have a voice on the matter.
