Keokuk, IA – One of the teenagers arrested in connection with a shooting plot at Central Lee High School is facing a lesser charge. Dalton Bird, 17, is now charged with conspiracy to commit an aggravated misdemeanor. He was facing a felony charge. Bird's case has also been transfered to adult court. Lee County Attorney, Mike Short, says Bird's age and factors revealed in several court reports and exams led to the changes. Authorities say Bird, Stephen Copeland, 16, and Jacob Schulte, 15, were targeting several people at the school and had access to guns. Short says Bird will remain in custody, on a $10,000 cash-only bond, until he enters a high-intensity supervision program designed for young adults. Bird can also have no contact with Copeland or Schulte, can only be on the Central Lee campus with school permission, and must cooperate with treatment programs.
