Fort Madison, IA – Fort Madison residents could vote, this fall, on a plan to borrow millions of dollars to build a new elementary school. A group of citizens has presented the school board with a petition, filled with 170 names, calling for a vote on whether to borrow $16,000,000. The money woud be used to build a new school to replace Fort Madison Middle School and Denmark Elementary. Superintendent Kenneth Marang says the bond referendum will likely be held in October. He says the district will start looking at possible sites, between Fort Madison and Denmark, for the new school. If the borrowing plan is approved, Marang says the new school could be finished by the fall of 2009.
