Macomb, IL – A developer wants to build some condominiums on Macomb's west side but the proposal has hit a wall. The plan calls for seven, two-unit condos just southwest of Riverview Drive and Wigwam Hollow Road. They would be marketed to retirees and WIU employees. In order for the project to proceed, the property needs to be rezoned from R-1 (for single family residential) to R-3 (for two-family residential). But neighborhood residents packed the Macomb Planning Commission's meeting Wednesday evening to voice their opposition. Many said they moved into the neighborhood because it's zoned for single family homes and they said any proposed development should be for that type of housing. The Planning Commission unanimously agreed to recommend against the rezoning. The issue next goes to the city council, which would need a three-quarters vote to override the decision.
