Fort Madison, IA – Fort Madison residents will decide, in less than 9 months, whether the school district needs a new building. The school board has set October 16th as the date for a special bond referendum. Voters will be asked whether the district should borrow $16,000,000 to build a new K-8 facility. Superintendent Kenneth Marang says the district would need about 30 acres of land to build a 110,000 square foot school. It would hold roughly 900 students. The district's initial idea was to place the school in between Denmark and Fort Madison. Marang says the district will also consider land near West Point.
