Construction Funding Recommended for PAC

Macomb, IL – The Illinois Board of Higher Education has recommended funds to start construction of a performing arts center at WIU. The funding is part of capital spending recommendations of more than $45 million for the university. They include $29 million to begin the first phase of construction of the arts center. This follows $4 million in planning funds released during the last fiscal year. The center will have a 1,900 seat theater auditorium, a 300-seat thrust stage and a 150-seat studio theater. The total cost of the facility is estimated at almost $62 million. The capital recommendations also include more than $14 million for renovation of a building on the WIU Riverfront Campus in the Quad Cities. The recommendation has yet to be approved by the legislature and the governor.
