Fort Madison, IA – Fort Madison is a step closer to bringing passenger rail service to its historic Santa Fe Depot. The city has received a $280,000 Iowa DOT grant to renovate the depot located along the riverfront. Mayor Steve Ireland says Fort Madison's goal is for Amtrak and the North Lee County Historical Society to share the depot, which would bring more visitors downtown. Ireland says a time line has not been established, though he would like to see the project completed by the fall. Fort Madison has received more than $1,000,000 for the renovations and for the addition of a platform.
