Keokuk, IA – Commercial property tax relief will be a key issue during a regional lobbying effort, this week, in Des Moines. More than 100 delegates from Lee, Des Moines, Henry, and Louisa counties will take part in Great River Region Days, formerly known as Southeast Iowa Days. Keokuk Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Katie O'Brien, says the contingent wants to stress to lawmakers the importance of reducing the tax burden on business and industry. The lobbying effort will also focus on securing money for the Highway 61 corridor, keeping the Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison, and lowering health insurance costs for businesses. O'Brien says roughly 30 delegates are high school students. They will take part in a youth leadership forum.
